My book reflects on the life of Eric and the many survivors of the Rwandan Genocide. It shows me all the challenges the Tutsi's went through and how they faced them. What these people went through was nothing I could never imagine. The horror they encountered, while watching their family members being killed. This book matters because everyone should know what happened In Rwanda and be aware how terrible genocide is. No one should have to live through this, and we can't let another genocide happen. This book could encourage you to help out orphans and step out in faith. It should show you to be thankful to be alive another day. The book had a very moving, and inspiring ending. It was talking about how the Tutsi's were rebounding after the Genocide. It took a lot of courage to get through it but they were strong. It taught me that no matter the struggle you can get over it and continue your life and stay hopeful. Eric found happiness in caring for the orphans, and becoming part of a church. God got him through these struggles and led him into a happy life. At the end of the book it told me that God helped many Rwandans like Eric to find their soul again and let them live on without the pain.

Sadly there are events going on today, that are similar to the Rwandan Genocide. The Rohingya, who live in Rakhine state of northwestern Myanmar fled to Bangladesh to escape violence. Around 21,000 of them have entered Bangladesh. The Rohingya are Muslim unlike the majority which are Buddhist, so they are thought of as second-class citizens. They look at them as illegal immigrants or "terrorists". They have killed 3000 people so far in Myanmar. People should learn their lesson after the Holocaust and the Rwandan Genocide. No one has a better religion or should think they are superior to another group and its not OK to treat certain people for being who they are. Some groups today think they are more superior than others. Some societies today think you have to be in a certain group and act a certain way or believe the same ideas as one group does. This should never be the case. Today Rwanda has slowly recovered from the genocide but it will never be forgotten and no one will ever totally overcome to fear and emotions that were felt. They are trying to rebuild the country and get everything back on track but it will be impossible to overcome the pain felt during the genocide.
`My book is based on a real person that went through the Rwandan Genocide. It gives me a real point of view from someone who was actually there, living through the horrific tragedy. In my book he is a Tutsi hiding from the Hutu's because the Hutu majority set out to kill everyone in the Tutsi group. This is what actually happened between the Hutu and the Tutsi. There has always been problems between the two groups, all the way back to when the Belgians came to Rwanda and this is true in the book and real life. Eric is the boy in the book and he hates the Hutu's for what they are doing to his tribe and he has to see his family be murdered before his own eyes. In the book it talks about all the horrible, inhumane things the Hutu's do to the Tutsi, and all the ways they executed them. It really is horrific how a group could hate another so much. Historically I don't think it describes how terrible they really were to the Tutsi because having been through it is something no one could imagine. A quote from the book is "These men were not fighters, like admirable military men who protect. They were killers-their purpose was to murder. Their motivation was to fulfill the devil's plan to make Rwandans a divided people and ultimately wipe out a tribe".

Edward Hoggard Stella Smith Dalia Perez Katie Hernandez Martinez Our group issue is beautifying Martin Middle School; we will do a few projects around the school to make it more colorful and appealing. We are going to make Martin a brighter place for the students and the teachers. The issue around Martin Middle School is the lacking amount of art. Martin Middle is known for our performing arts and gifted and talented program; but all the art is outdated and peeling. We are going to fix this issue! This affects the students at Martin because it feels gloomy and sad, so we don't feel motivated to learn because of the feel of the school. The wake county school program is short twenty four million dollars so jobs like ground maintenance might get cut, and school supplies that are not necessities. (Keung Hui, 2017) Martin middle has 8 glass cases with little artwork or none in them but most of the art is from the early 2000s. There is also lots of blank walls. Our group is interested in this project because we want to have a better learning experience and a brighter school for us and the people who come to martin after us. I think teachers will also like what we're doing because they've seen the art for so long so they might want something new and bright. Also other students will like this because our group was talking to other students and they agreed how bland our school is like a blank canvas. We are going to solve this problem. The art teachers at Martin Middle do change some of the art every year and i think we should change the art cases too. Also add some art on to the walls. We would get in contact with the art club and they could make the majority of the art. The art club would be making lots of different colorful things from paintings to pottery, also the art teachers ( including stella’s mask making) would be picking out art from there art classes. But we will also save some of the art in the cases to also show the old, and new feel of martin. The art cases with nothing in them have been here since i came in 6th grade so it is time to fix this problem. This lack of art makes Martin Middle School not as fun and plain, and the students wanted a better learning experience. The art club have done multiple projects to brighten up the school. Also East Millbrook Middle School has also beautified their school; Such as painting walls, planting in gardens, made custom mosaic, and weeded the gardens. East Wake Middle School had a day of service. They painted inspirational quotes on the hallways. A lots of schools in our community are trying to brighten up their school. There still needs to be help because there are other schools in our community that need help from a lot to a little help. Help will always be needed, We need this help because schools and wake county only have a certain amount of money and the majority of that government money can be funded for schools. People are also helping out by joining the PTA or donating money to schools and also volunteering to help or brighten up the school. Some people are helping out such as Ellen degeneres and Justin Bieber donating $50,000 to a elementary school in Detroit. Some people are really helping out in the community by doing anything they can, because any little detail will help. (Remi Merhi, 2016) We will start with asking the teachers if they want to keep any of the art in the cases, after that we will take most of the old art. Then we will ask the art club and art teachers to have some art or ask them to make some, also making some are own. Then we will make a fundraiser and donation box to gather money for the paint. After that we will gather all the 8th grade students who would want to put their hand on the wall and make a schedule of who would put their hands on the wall at what times. Are fundraiser would be GoFundMe and asking to put a donation box in martin. This would be fun for students to do because if they put their handprint on the walls at martin they would make the school prettier and always be a part of Martin Middle School. Our goal is to make Martin a better and brighter place for the students who come after us to let them have a even better experience than we did. We are also trying to be apart of martin when we go and be a project people remember by brightening up the school. We are trying to make Martin middle school a better place. Her car was repossessed and now they are sleeping on the couches and floors of friends and family. She is looking for a job and has been getting calls about jobs but doesn't have a way of getting there. She is struggling to get ahead in a thriving city. Our community has a big problem with homelessness and it needs to be stopped. The numbers of homeless people in Wake county has risen in 2017. I am interested in helping people have places to live in, I cant imagine sleeping on the streets and not having a warm bed to go to every night. I enjoy helping people and I am interested in getting involved with getting homeless people homes. Everyone should be cared about finding homeless people homes because it is a big issue and everyone deserves a place to live in, Anyone could get involved in helping end homelessness. Some things you could do is donating your old clothes, volunteering at shelters, serving food, giving blankets, furniture, or anything to get yourself involved with solving the problem.
This I believe no matter the age you can achieve anything. I believe this because when I was in 6th grade I tried out for this travel lacrosse team and there were all eighth graders and a few seventh graders and only two other 6th graders. All of the girls were a lot bigger than me, and one of my friends older sister was trying out too. I was really intimidated and I felt so little and weak. I didn’t want to mess up and make a fool out of myself. I was so nervous that I had butterflies in my stomach. Before I walked out on the field I doubted myself that I wasn’t going to make the team. The coach seemed really scary, with his big body and loud deep voice. I heard he yelled a lot and got really mad easily. I just didn’t feel like going out there and screwing things up and I didn’t want the other girls to not like me or think I was bad. This was my first year of travel lacrosse and I knew this team was really good. I really wanted to show them what I have but at the same time I didn’t want to drop the ball, or give a bad pass. I decided to just walk out on the field with my head high ready to play. It would have been alright if I dropped a pass or missed a ground ball because if I was trying, it doesn’t matter. I told myself I was going to show them that I have what it takes to be on Flight. I felt anxious when I threw the first couple of throws and catches, but after a while I felt more confident. It made me feel so mature, and grown up playing with all of these older girls. I was trying my very best, but I still felt intimidated by everyone. When I dropped a pass, I felt so ashamed, but then everyone started cheering me on. This made me feel good about myself, and that it would be ok if I messed up a couple of times. I felt like I was doing pretty well during tryouts. Not as good as the older girls but I thought I was doing alright. We did this drill called the W drill where there are three lines at the top and two at the bottom, which creates the letter W. No one had dropped the ball yet and then it came to be my turn to catch and throw the ball. We had already gotten 10 catches and throws in a row and I didn’t want to be the one to mess up. Of course I didn’t catch the ball and I gave a terrible pass that the girl couldn't catch. I had thought I wouldn't make it and I was doubting myself. I wanted to turn it around and the last 30 minutes of tryouts I worked my tail off. I was mostly satisfied with how I played and I felt confident. Four days later I got the email….. And I had made the team. To this day I still play for Flight and it has all been from that day of tryouts. This is why I believe you can achieve anything no matter the age. I was intimidated at first by everyone but then I did the best I could and I felt confident towards the end. Age doesn’t matter if you believe in yourself and if you have faith. Even though you are the underdog you can still be just as good maybe even better. That is why I believe age doesn’t matter you can achieve anything you want. I love to travel and see breathtaking places over the world.
